Port Authority Police Corral Completely Camouflaged GWB Jumper

FORT LEE, N.J. -- A Jersey Shore dressed entirely in camouflage had climbed over a George Washington Bridge railing, set to jump to his death, when two Port Authority police officers convinced him it wasn't worth it.

It was the second PAPD intervention of 2017. There were 70 last year.

Officers Ronald King and Brian Ahern received a report just after 9 a.m. Thursday of a man who'd parked his 2016 Ford Escape on upper level of the bridge and gotten out, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 220-pound Little Egg Harbor man was "standing poised" on the other side of the rail, he said.

"He told the officers he was depressed and intended to jump, but they convinced him to climb to the safe side of the railing," Pentangelo said.

He was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center for evaluation.
