Officer Michael Becker stopped a 2011 Toyota with Alabama license plates Wednesday night near Newark Airport because it was missing a rear bumper and rear-view mirror, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.
A computer check turned up a fugitive warrant out of Tuscaloosa for the driver, 23-year-old James Sherman Rountree of Birmingham, he said.
Authorities there said Rountree broke into and burglarized a vehicle while holding a victim at gunpoint.
Rountree was taken to the Essex County Jail, where he was to remain pending extradition proceedings.
