Port Authority Police Bust NYC Quartet At GWB With $11G In Stolen Items

FORT LEE, N.J. -- Failing to signal a lane change at the lower level toll plaza of the George Washington Bridge led to the discovery of nearly $11,000 worth of shoplifting items and two metal tape-lined "booster" bags used by a four members of an organized shoplifting crew from New York City, Port Authority police charged.

After an authority officer stopped their 2005 Honda Pilot Saturdday night, the driver, Reinier F. Noriega, 24, of the Bronx, couldn't produced any paperwork, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Noriega also said he didn't know the name of the vehicle's owner -- or of a woman in the car who he claimed was his mother, Pentangelo said.

Inside the car, police found sneakers, slacks and a $1,200 leather jacket, among other items, all with anti-theft devices still attached, he said.

"None of the suspects could provide receipts for the merchandise," Pentangelo said.

Charged with receiving stolen property and possession of an anti-shoplifting device were Noriega; Leticia Diaz, 54, of Woodside, Queens (who records show had prior theft arrests in Pennsylvania), Elkina A. Paredes Reina, 33 (who had priors in California and Virginia) and Alexis R. Valenzuela Diaz, 34, both of Jackson Heights, Queens.
