FORT LEE, N.J. -- A drunk BMW driver lost his balance after being stopped before dawn on the George Washington Bridge, Port Authority police said.
Officers stopped the car after it "swerved from side to side out of the lane of traffic" on the approach to the lower level tolls at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.
The driver, 50-year-old Paul Thompson of the Bronx failed a field sobriety test, losing his balance in the process, while failing to follow instructions, he said.
Thompson, whose eyes were bloodshot and smalled of alcohol, later refused to provide a breath sample, Pentangelo said.
His Beamer was impounded and he was arrested on various DWI-related charges before being released to a responsible adult.
