One of the men got out after the 2012 Audi sedan stopped on the entrance to the GWB roadway around 9 p.m. Sunday, the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.
He then taped a piece of paper over the plate and got back in, Pentangelo said.
Authority police stopped the car after it rolled through the toll, he said.
The driver, Jose M. Hernandez gave police an interim license but didn't have a registration or insurance card for the vehicle, Pentangelo said.
The man who covered the plate "was uncooperative and provided police with a name other than his own," he said.
It turned out he was wanted on a warrant out of Cranbury in Middlesex County, Pentangelo said.
He was turned over to Cranbury police, the Audi was impounded and Hernandez was cahrged with theft of services, toll evasion, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and not having a front license plate.
