FORT LEE, N.J. -- A Bronx driver pulled over by Port Authority police in Fort Lee near the George Washington Bridge was carrying a stolen handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets, authorities told Daily Voice.

Officers stopped the 2004 Volvo on northbound I-95 around 8 p.m. Tuesday for having tinted windows, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.

The driver -- identified as 34-year-old Stalin DeJesus --"was unable to provide the name or address of the Volvo’s owner," Pentangelo said.

A computer checked produced an outstanding warrant out of South Brunswick, leading to a search that turned up the loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol in a compartment under the driver’s seat, he told Daily Voice.

It was loaded with 13 hollow-point rounds, with a round in the chamber, and had been reported stolen out of Philadelphia, Pentangelo said.

Records show that DeJesus and his uncle were part of a ring in Queens that used others’ personal information to steal refund checks worth more than $500,000 from New Jersey check-cashing businesses.

DeJesus remained held without bail Wednesday in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on illegal weapons and ammo charges, as well as a count of receiving stolen property.
