What the agency referred to as an "unspecified threat to the aircraft" came into the control tower at Newark International Airport at 10 a.m., the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.
"The call came in while British Air Flight 184, which originated in London, was in air with 206 passengers and 13 crew members aboard," Pentangelo told Daily Voice.
The plane landed at 1 p.m. and was taken to a remote area "as part of the protocol."
"Everyone deplaned there, the plane was swept, and the passengers, their luggage and their carry-on was examined," Pentangelo said.
"At this point, it's still under investigation," he said around 2 p.m.
