The “Molly,” as its known, along with the other drugs, were found around 5 yesterday afternoon after 22-year-old Harley Lynn Rooney of Binghamton came out of the Sunoco convenience store in Englewood Cliffs and got back into her 2013 Hyundai Elantra as Officer Frankie Garrett wrote the ticket, Acting PIP Police Chief Michael Coppola said this morning.
Garrett said he smelled pot coming from the car as he handed Rooney the ticket, then asked her to get out. With her signed consent, he searched the vehicle.
Besides the drugs, he reported finding rolling papers and cigars used as marijuana blunts, Coppola said.
Police later determined that Rooney was being paid to bring the drugs to Binghamton, he said.
The active chemical in Molly, MDMA, is the same used in Ecstasy. Users report having intense feelings of pleasure followed by what can be a paralyzing crash.
Cheap and easily available, and sometimes cut with meth, Molly raises body temperatures — at times to fatal levels, sending users into cardiac arrest.
Rooney, who was charged with various drug and paraphernalia counts, was being held on $60,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail. She was due in court today.
