Bum S. Suh – who made headlines after authorities reported him missing three years ago – was arrested by Teaneck police before dawn Sunday following the gunpoint sexual assault.
The 33-year-old woman told police that Suh “approached her carrying a firearm and, after tackling her forcibly, touched her in an inappropriate manner,” Molinelli said. “The firearm, which was later determined to be a pellet gun, discharged several times during the struggle.
“The victim was eventually able to break free with the help of another resident and flagged down a passing motorist who contacted [police],” who recovered the weapon, the prosecutor said.
Suh was in police custody at Bergen Regional Medical Center with bail set at $500,000. The victim was taken to an area hospital.
Authorities characterized Suh, formerly of Fort Lee, as “mentally challenged” when he was reported missing by his family in December 2010. He was last seen at the Port Authority bus terminal on 42nd Street in Manhattan and was believed headed to California at the time.
The current charges:
- Aggravated sexual assault;
- Aggravated sexual assault with a weapon;
- Criminal restraint;
- Aggravated criminal sexual contact;
- Illegal handgun and firearm possession charges
