Police Sgt. James Rotundo reviewed surveillance video before drafting charges against 32-year-old Alex Dinev, who over the past several months was arrested -- and later released without bail -- by police in Elmwood Park, Fort Lee and Cliffside Park.
He also has prior arrests out of Palisades Park, records show.
All involve burglaries and thefts of credit cards.
"He goes around opening unlocked car doors and stealing credit cards and using them for shopping sprees at Foot Locker, Foot Action, Home Depot, Lowes -- then sells the purchased products," Rotondo said.
This time, Dinev remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Friday pending a detention hearing.
Police Chief Mark Jackson said the crimes involving Dinev show the benefits of security.
"I urge all residents to make sure their vehicles are locked, and to not leave their wallets, credit cards, cash and other personal effects inside their vehicles," the chief said.
