Clad in Tyvek suits, the pair cut the wires to the Banner II Liquor store on West Central Boulevard, forced open a rear door using a crowbar and sledgehammer and carried off a safe filled with cash last July 5, Police Chief Mark Jackson said.
A months-long investigation led borough detectives to George Waddleton, an inmate at the Hudson County Correctional Facility with a long rap sheet that includes burglary.
A review of Waddleton’s phone conversations from the jail brought investigators the break they needed.
“This investigation had many hurdles,” Jackson told Daily Voice “But my detectives stayed focused.
“Eventually criminals will let their guard down. It’s all about being patient.”
Waddleton was charged with burglary, theft of moveable property, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.
Meanwhile, the search for his accomplice continues.
Jackson asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call his Detective Bureau: (201) 944-0900.
