Jet skiers reportedly helped pull three victims from the wreckage after the single-engine Cessna 182 came down on the Beechhurst Yacht Club pier, in the shadow of the Throgs Neck Bridge, around 3 p.m.

"Witnesses said that the plane was traveling rather fast along the water, skipped twice, and [broke apart when it] hit the pier," then "jumped FDNY Commissioner Dan Nigro said. "Why this happened, we have no idea right now."

A 61-year-old female passenger died, he said.

Hospitalized were another passenger and the pilot, who reportedly lives two blocks from the crash site, owns a restaurant in Queens and frequently flies in and out of the area.
