Carlos Rodriguez-Hernandez, 50, was stopped in Fort Lee earlier this month, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

In an electronically-operated compartment they found $49,705, he said.

The 5-foot-8-inch, 175-pound Rodriguez-Hernandez was briefly held in the Bergen County Jail before being released.

A judge in Hackensack on Wednesday allowed him to remain free on charges of transporting or possessing property believed to be derived from criminal activity – aka: money laundering.

The prosecutor’s office was seeking to have the money forfeited.
