Philip Leone, 50, was charged with second-degree eluding after the brief chase just before 1 p.m., Capt. Scott Tamagny said.

A license plate reader registered a hit on Leone’s 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier following a report of a missing and endangered driver, Tamagny said.

Special Police Officer Steve Oxnard pulled Leone over on Grand Avenue at Christie Heights Street, but he hit the gas and sped off moments later, the captain said.

He came to a stop at Grand and Forest as backup Officers Ray Forsdale and Eddie Millan arrived, Tamagny said.

A municipal judge was setting bail this afternoon.
