Angel Alvarez, 28, was being held in the Bergen County Jail pending an extradition hearing.
Alvarez is already facing major drug-trafficking charges in Bergen County following his arrest last May 31 in Fort Lee. He posted $100,000 bail four days later and was released from the Bergen County Jail pending grand jury action.
NYPD detectives arrested him at a Main Street apartment this morning with assistance from Cliffside Park police.
Alvarez got his nickname from the city tabloids after he was cleared of weapons possession charges by a Manhattan grand jury in connection with the August 2010 shooting at a Harlem block party.
Grand jurors found that he’d been defending himself against another man armed with a .38-caliber revolver when two shots rang out as Alvarez took it from his assailant, who was shot and killed by police. No charges were brought against any officers.
Alvarez has sued the city in federal court, seeking unspecified cash damages.
