Leonia Man Becomes GWB's 12th Suicide Of 2016

FORT LEE, N.J. -- Authorities retrieved the body of a 41-year-old Leonia man who jumped from the George Washington Bridge Sunday morning -- the 12th confirmed suicide from the span in 2016.

There were 18 GWB suicides both last year and the year before.

"At 9:26 a.m., there was a reported jumper from the south walk," the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice. "Officers on the bridge observed a body floating northbound in the Hudson River."

A harbor unit brought the body to the Englewood boat basin, he said.

The man was pronounced dead at 10:26 a.m., Pentangelo said.
