Jay Dorfman, 65, took a plea deal three years ago this month to a charge of indecent exposure for fondling himself in front of a female bicyclist in the New Hampshire town of New Castle, records show (booking photo, above left).
Prosecutors in New Hampshire said the woman was riding her bicycle on Oct. 17, 2009 when Dorfman drove up “masturbating and licking his lips in a sexual manner.” He then “slowly drove away,” allowing the victim to get the make and model of his car, as well as the license plate number, they said.
His defense was that he was asking for directions.
Dorfman pretty much did the same thing on Tuesday, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of his arrest told CLIFFVIEW PILOT yesterday.
A 29-year-old Asian woman from Palisades Park who “could easily pass for an adolescent,” told police that Dorfman pulled up in an SUV and asked what street was just ahead, the source said.
“Central Boulevard,” the woman told him.
“You want to get in the car?” she said he asked her. Then: “You want to get arrested?”
She declined, then took down his license plate number as he drove away — and immediately went to police.
“She also got the make, model, color of the car — and described him to a T,” the source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
After tracing the SUV, detectives obtained Dorfman’s driver’s license photo from the New Jersey DMV.
The woman was then shown the photo, which Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said resembled a composite sketch made by police (below) after a pair of luring attempts.
Two different pair of girls said they were approached around the same time on March 12 in Leonia by a man in a light blue, 4-door, older model SUV with New Jersey license.
The driver first asked for directions, then “made a very inappropriate sexual comment to them,” authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at the time.
Dorfman was being held on $350,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with enticing a child into a motor vehicle and four counts of child endangerment (mugshot, top right).
He’s also charged with three counts of harassment and one of lewdness for what Molinelli said were January incidents in which he “approached adult females in Palisades Park and made sexually explicit comments to them” while exposing himself..
In the New Hampshire case, Dorfman at first appealed the charge from Portsmouth District Court, saying that he was a film producer and was driving home to New Jersey from a photography class in Maine when he got lost.
Prosecutors, in turn, said he had a working GPS in his car.
Dorfman later accepted a plea deal in Rockingham County Superior Court on April 11, 2011, records show.
A judge fined him $1,500, with $1,000 suspended if he didn’t get into trouble again, had no contact with the victim and, most importantly to prosecutors, received a sex offender evaluation “to help ensure that he does not commit any other deviant sexual offense against another victim.”
