YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Leonia police are looking for an intruder who they said forced his way into a Lakeview Avenue condominium just after midnight, knocking a woman inside down, before fleeing.
The call came in just after 12:10 a.m., Police Chief Jay Ziegler said. The woman told police she had just gotten home when she heard someone trying the doorknob, he said.
“Assuming that it was another house member, she opened the door,” Ziegler said. Instead, she found a stranger standing there.
“She immediately tried to close the door but the [intruder] had wedged his body between the storm door and interior door. Using brute force, [he] pushed open the front door, knocking the resident to the floor,” the chief said.
Englewood and Palisades Park police rushed to help secure a perimeter. A Bergen County tracking dog caught a scent but then lost it on Brookside Avenue in Englewood, Ziegler said.
She described the intruder as black, about 22 years old, 5’10” or so and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue sweatpants and white sneakers, he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Leonia Police Detective Bureau: (201) 592-5764.
