A homeowner in the 100 block  of Van Orden Avenue said she scared the bandit off when she pulled into her driveway around 1 o’clock this afternoon, Capt. Scott Tamagny told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“He was trying to force his way in through a side door,” Tamagany said. “He was last seen running east on Van Orden toward Broad [Avenue].”

Englewood police, Bergen County Police and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assisted in today’s search, he said.

The bandit fit the description of the burglar shown here on video breaking into a Cottage Place home around 3:30 p.m. on July 18, the captain said. Police believe he also struck on nearby Hillside Avenue that same afternoon.

The only differences this time, Tamagny said, is that he was wearing a beige suit and carrying papers. He also was clean-shaven, the captain said.

Police believe the business suit burglar had an accomplice driving a white van in the earlier break-ins. There had been no reports  yet late this afternoon of a vehicle seen near Van Orden earlier today, Tamagny said.

A portion of the video released by police shows the burglar in a grayish suit, with a black shirt and print tie and aviator glasses, carrying a briefcase and speaking with someone in Spanish through an earpiece on a cellphone.

“We’ve seen this before,” Tamagny said. “People see someone in a suit, they don’t think anything of it.”

After popping the rear door open with a tire iron, the burglar closes the lock and looks directly into the camera before heading inside.

Tamagny asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call Leonia police:
