Emergency workers found the badly burned body of 70-year-old Dolores Alliotts after extinguishing the blaze just off Bergen Boulevard in Palisades Park around 5 a.m. Wednesday, two hours after the fire broke out. She had lived there alone, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
Members of Molinelli’s Arson Task Force investigated, along with the county sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and the county Medical Examiner.
“After the Medical Examiner’s office cleaned the body, it was discovered that Ms. Alliotts had been stabbed multiple times in the torso and possibly other areas of the body,” Molinelli said.
“It is not known whether she was deceased or still alive prior to the fire at this time,” the prosecutor said. “[B]ut, due to the circumstances, the fire is being considered an arson as a means to hide evidence of the homicide.”
