Sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that Denis Nurdjanov, 37, of Fort Lee registered more than twice the legal limit when he was stopped following tonight’s incident.

Authorities said he was charged with DWI, among a host of other offenses — including reckless driving, driving on the shoulder, failing to yield and leaving the scene of a crash.

A rebar sticking up from the highway had damaged at least two vehicles when an emergency crew was sent out tonight.

Moments after police closed the right lane, Fair Lawn Police Officer Luis Vasquez shouted “Watch out!” to Glen Rock Officer Greg Carter.

A black 2006 Mercedes Benz S430 that witnesses said was going at least 50 miles an hour was bearing down on him on the shoulder, Glen Rock Police Sgt. Eric Reamy told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The vehicle “suddenly cut left at the last instant, mowed down road flares that had just been set up and missed a police car by a fraction,” he said.

The driver continued on before Fair Lawn and Glen Rock police stopped him in front of the Maxell Corp. building in Fair Lawn, Reamy said.
