BEYOND BERGEN: Port Authority police at the midtown Manhattan bus terminal yesterday grabbed two men wanted for shooting another man in Rhode Island who were switching buses on their way to Philadelphia.
PAPD officers got the call from police in Newport, R.I. — along with photographs — just after midnight, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Around 7:15 a.m., they spotted Christopher Rodriguez, 22, of Newport and 20-year-old Joshua Melendez Torres of Mooresville, N.C. and took them into custody pending extradition proceedings, he said.
Both are accused of shooting a 25-year-old man in the face and chest with birdshot from a shotgun in Newport last Friday, Pentangelo said.
Rodriguez also had several outstanding warrants out of New York City, while Torres was wanted on a warrant out of North Carolina, he said.
Authorities in Rhode Island have charged both with assault with intent to commit murder, among other offenses.
