A concerned citizen dialed 911 and began CPR at the instructions of Dispatcher Donna Iafelice on Wednesday, Capt. Stephen Gallagher said.
Responding Officers Stephen Domenick and John C. Klein found the victim “barely breathing, with a very light pulse,” and continued first aid, Gallagher said.
Domenick then administered a dose of Narcan to the victim, who immediately responded. A second dose brought the victim around, the captain said.
The Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps and paramedics responded and took the victim to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck.
During the rescue, 20-year-old Jake A. Levy emerged from inside, Gallagher said.
He told officers that he and his friend had argued and that he’d gone to the bathroom.
“Levy was unaware that his friend was in medical distress until he exited the restroom and saw first responders treating [the victim],” the captain said.
He was later released on a summons charging him with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
“The swift actions of the two citizens who called 911 and performed CPR were of a great assistance to the victim, the Fort Lee Police Department and the Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps,” Gallagher said.
