Chistopher Gooch, of Tracy CA, was out of the vehicle when officers and detectives reponded just after 1 a.m., Capt. Patrick Kissane said late Friday afternoon.
Members of the Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps tended to Gooch, who refused further medical attention, the captain said.
Both Gooch and the Jeep reeked of marijuana, Kissane said, adding that officers arrested Gooch on driving under the influence charges after he failed field sobriety tests.
A search of the Jeep turned up pot and drug paraphernalia, he added.
A computer check at headquarters showed that Gooch was wanted on a no-bail fugitive warrant on drug charges out of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office in California.
Gooch was being held in the Bergen County Jail pending extradition proceedings.
Fort Lee police charged him with various drug offenses, careless driving, driving with a suspended license and being a fugitive from justice.
