Scott Basile, 24, of Wolcott, CT remained held without bail in the Bergen County Jail on Monday.
Authorities reported him missing in January, a day before someone crashed his stepfather's car into a utility pole in Stamford and fled. Witnesses told police they'd dropped Basile at the train station.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging him with criminal mischief, arson, and attempt to manufacture bombs. Basile’s family said that he had history of mental health issues.
It was just before noon on April 9 when Fort Lee Officer Vassilios Triantafillou spotted Basile trying to hide a bicycle in a wooded area at Linwood and Coolidge avenues, Capt. Patrick Kissane told Daily Voice.
Basile didn't have ID and gave the officer several different names and birthdates, Kissane said. On that basis, Triantafillou took him into custody, he said.
Authorities determined Basile's identity through a fingerprint check at headquarters, the captain said.
