YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A paroled robber accused of mugging a Fort Lee gas station attendant for $1,800 in receipts was in such a rush to take off that he dropped his wallet, leading to his arrest in Newark, Fort Lee Chief Thomas Ripoli said.

The attendant told police the robber pulled into the Exxon station on Bergen Boulevard around 7:30 Tuesday night.

After buying two quarts of motor oil, the driver “threw them away, walked over to the refrigerator and grabbed a can of Red Bull,” Ripoli said.

As he was paying, the driver “forcibly reached into the attendant’s jacket pocket” and the two struggled, before the robber took off with the cash, the chief said. The attendant reported a minor hand injury.

What the robber didn’t know, Ripoli said, was that he’d dropped his wallet during the scuffle.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department also pulled latent prints off the motor oil bottles, the chief said.

Although he was carrying false  identification — having used no fewer than 14 aliases in his criminal career — Fort Lee detectives made a match based on the bandit’s photo.

With the assistance of the Newark Major Crimes Unit, the Newark Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals, Ripoli’s investigators tracked down Wahid T. Kimbrough, 26, an ex-con from Newark who was released from state prison last July after serving three years for robbery.

Kimbrough was arrested without incident and taken to the Newark lockup. Police there have charged him with other crimes, the chief said.

Bail in the Fort Lee case was set at $250,000. He faces several charges.
