The building was being torn down late this afternoon, as firefighters kept streams of water trained on it. Bergen Boulevard in the area was closed during the operation.

Pockets of flame continued to flare hours after the first call came in at 6:08 a.m.

The fire, which broke out on the second floor of the building two doors south of Mesón Madrid, was fully involved by 6:30, the general manager of a law firm in the building told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Within an hour flames pushed through the roof, and a huge column of heavy smoke was visible for miles on either side of the Hudson. A short time later, part of the roof collapsed.

The blaze was under control within two hours, Palisades Park Fire Chief Stephen Killion said, adding that hot spots continued to require attention.

The origin was “electrical in nature, not suspicious,” a law enforcement official told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Killion’s crew was joined by colleagues from Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Fort Lee, Leonia, Ridgefield, Englewood and Englewood Cliffs. Several remained at the scene for hours.

No injuries were reported.

The law offices of Hubschman & Roman were on the second floor. The first-floor businesses: American Tile Agency, Realty 7 and SisterSkinCare.com.
