A bridge to somewhere along the Hudson River walk

The Hudson River walk is moving excruciatingly closer to completion with a bridge that connects lower Hoboken and Jersey City’s Newport section.

Officials say the bridge over Long Slip Canal will be open next month, closing another hole in the 18.5-mile river walk from Fort Lee down to Bayonne — but still leaving plenty of other gaps along the way.

The new link will give Newport resident easier access to the Hoboken Terminal — and, in turn, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, PATH trains, buses and New York Waterways ferries.

The state ordered the walkway more than 20 years ago, but we’re still waiting for a continuous stretch connecting parks, piers and complexes from the George Washington Bridge to the Bayonne Bridge.
