An investigation found that Armaad Brooks-Chappell, 20, Adresce Jones, 19, and a juvenile male co-conspirator, utilized a stolen vehicle and multiple firearms to coordinate a planned attack on a 22-year-old victim from Atlantic City, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

The defendants allegedly ambushed M.B., who was walking on the sidewalk and opened fire. M.B. was struck multiple times by gunfire, including in the face and shoulder. The investigation later determined that the motive for the attack was gang retaliation. Defendants Beatrice Chappell, 35, the mother of Armaad Brooks-Chappell, and Faheem Harris, 21, allegedly conspired with Armaad Brooks-Chappell to commit the crime of witness tampering of the victim, the prosecutor said.

On Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, Armaad Brooks-Chappell was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

This investigation was conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit of the Atlantic City Police Department with the assistance of the Intelligence Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Allison Eiselen represents the State.
