PALISADES PARK, N.J. -- A Palisades Park police officer under indictment on charges of stealing from the borough was returned to the payroll Wednesday because of a procedural error, NorthJersey.com reports.
Sergeant Marc Messing was also paid $43,503.80 in back and current pay, the report says. Borough Clerk Gina Kim told NorthJersey.com the sum represents $9,667.60 per month in salary.
Messing was arrested June 24 and charged with theft for altering a check from High Point Utilities by placing his own name on a “Pay to” line, and depositing the money in his bank account, the report says. The check was for $1,000 and was deposited Dec. 11, 2014.
Messing, who has been on the force 11 years, is the son of Councilwoman Cynthia Pirrera.
