FORT LEE, N.J. — A grieving son is raising funds for the Fort Lee police officer who was struck on his motorcycle during his mom's funeral procession over the weekend.

More than $2,800 had been raised as of Wednesday on a GoFundMe page launched by Christos Kotsogiannis.

He told Daily Voice the Fort Lee motorcycle officer was sent to the hospital while directing traffic Saturday afternoon during the funeral procession for his mom, Demetria Kotsogiannis, of Englewood Cliffs.

They were on their way to George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

Earlier this month, the 72-year-old was found by Fort Lee police outside of 7-Eleven on Lemoine Avenue lying on the ground, her son told Daily Voice.

First responders administered CPR and the officer who found her was able to get in touch with family members after seeing her address on her license in her purse, finding a prescription bottle of medication in her home, calling her doctor and then getting in touch with her emergency contact, Kotsogiannis told Daily Voice.

Two weeks before Demetria Kotsogiannis' passing, she attended funeral procession — complete with a motorcade — and told her family how beautiful it was, her son said.

Now, Christos Kotsogiannis is honoring his mom by raising funds for the police officers who saved her and those who kept her safe in Englewood Cliffs.

"My only hope is that this will raise more funds for the police departments," he said. "They are truly heroes.

"Fort Lee law enforcement bravery is unparalleled."
