"It was a great turnout," Anthony Ventrella told Daily Voice after Saturday's drive at the Fort Lee Recreation Center. "We ran out of swabs halfway through the event, but luckily we got more.

"We easily went through more then 300 swabs in just four hours."

Briana, a 6th-grader at School No. 3, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in January. She has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy and will need a bone marrow transplant to help beat the cancer.

Ventrella's wife Rachel is a 3rd grade teacher who is also Briana's former tutor. The couple has also organized a fundraising tricky-tray dinner at the rec center on April 16.

"We have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of donations from everywhere you can possibly think -- from Yankee memorabilia to game tickets to gift certificates to vacation stays, and even hot yoga passes," he told Daily Voice. "We're hoping to spread the word."

"Briana is an exceptionally fun-loving, caring, and kind-hearted person who would bend over backward for anybody. We need to come together as a community to help this child."

A GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $20,000 as of early Sunday afternoon.
