FORT LEE, N.J. -- Violeta Velickaite of Violet’s Florist located on the corner of Main and John Streets in Fort Lee promises that if you stop by Wednesday, Feb. 10, the whole store will be full of roses.

Flowers in the shop come from countries all over the world, but most of the roses are from Ecuador. And roses, Velickaite says, are what people want for Valentine’s Day. So she has the best price in the area for roses, a dozen tied up for $45.95.

Velickaite worked for florists in Manhattan for about two years before deciding to open her own shop. She also worked for fashion giant Burberry’s for several years. Her taste is apparent.

The shop specializes in “European tied” arrangements, which she said is “very popular.”

She carries everything from single stems, priced by the piece, to epic arrangements that dwarf a table. She also sells gourmet baskets and is introducing gift baskets for gentlemen.

Velickaite likes the flower business because “It’s a happy business," she said. "When people come here, they’re celebrating -- a wedding, a party -- they’re happy.”

She will do flowers for your entire wedding, or for a dinner for two.

Velickaite's favorite flowers are peonies and ranunculus, and she’s happy that peonies are soon coming into season, “although they’re expensive.”
