According to the National Day Calendar, the first pies appeared around 9500 BC in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age. Aside from being a source of sweet tooth satisfaction, pies have also been used over the years for film humor ever since Actor Ben Turpin received one in the face in the silent movie, "Mr. Flip" in 1909.

In Bergen County, residents have a host of pie places to choose from. Plan now to buy yours. And feel free to tell us any we've missed.

Closter: There are always pies at The Barn but if you want a specific one, it's best to call ahead and order. There are no special plans for pie day -- although they may be for Pi Day on March 14, so check back. In the meantime, you'll most likely find apple, blueberry, cherry and pecan. Grab a Fork: 570 Piermont Rd., (201)768-1438, www.thebarnincloster.com/.

Englewood: Tod Wilson of Mr. Tod's Pie Factory says he's concentrating on cream pies for National Pie Day meaning lucky customers will get banana cream and Oreo cream. Grab a Fork: 15 W Hudson Ave., (201) 567-5370, www.whybake.com/.

Ho-Ho-Kus: Pies are homemade with love by Chef/Owner Janice Tinari at Just Janice. Though there's always dessert on hand, if you want a full pie, it's best to order in advance. Tinari makes everything from gluten-free varieties to chocolate cream to pecan, pumpkin, banana cream and coconut custard. Grab a Fork: 23 Sheridan Ave., (201) 445-2666, www.justjanice.net/.

Ridgewood: Just for National Pie Day, Carlo's Bakery is making five-inch crumb pies made with the crumbs from its famous crumb cake. In the center you can opt for lemon, blueberry, cherry, or apple fillings. Grab a Fork: 12 Wilsey Sq., (201) 962-9080, www.carlosbakery.com/.

Teaneck: Looking for something kosher? You'll find cherry, apple and blueberry pies at Butterflake Bakery in Teaneck. Grab a Fork: 448 Cedar Lane, (201) 836-3516, www.butterflake.com/.

Wyckoff: There's always some kind of pie being baked at Abma’s Farm. Expect perennial favorites like apple and Dutch apple among other varieties. Grab a Fork: 700 Lawlins Rd., (201) 891-0278, www.abmasfarm.com/.
