The songs on "Ride" are inspired by his passion for the American West.
Even after Berger passed the bar in New York and New Jersey, a thought lingered: what if I could be a songwriter instead?
On a whim, he met with a music producer and showed a few songs he'd written at law school.
He was offered a contract immediately.
Since then Berger has made a career out of his songs.
His performance at Fort Lee is one of many he's given at Bergen County libraries, including those in Englewood, Mahwah and Ridgewood.
"Ride" is a collection of stories and experiences about the American West told in a cinematic style that evokes the iconic imagery of Western landscapes.
Berger produced it after spending five consecutive summers exploring various locations out West.
"It's a breathtaking place," Berger said. "It really extroverts you."
The feeling that everything in your life is very important dissipates there, he added.
Originally from New York, Berger said not living in the West increased its allure for him.
"I don’t think I would’ve made that album if I grew up there," he said. "It would’ve been normal to me."
His solo performance of "Ride" will take place 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Fort Lee Public Library, 320 Main St. Entry is free.
