Fort Lee Opera Launches Fall Season With Englewood Open House

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- Bergen County's own opera company is planning its annual fall open house in Englewood.

The house opera company of the Bergen Performing Arts Center -- The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera -- invites the public to this free event on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The 2 p.m. program features a 30-minute concert and will be held at 44 Armory St., Englewood.

Artistic Director Lucine Amara, a Met Opera soprano (1950-86), said people in attendance will learn more about the opera company's fall season as well as opportunities to get involved. 

The event features a 30-minute concert of vocalists performing arias and duets from Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto and past productions. 

Verismo Opera’s mission, vision and history will be discussed by Amara, Conductor Lucy Arner, Stage Director Evelyn La Quaif, President James Garvin, MD, and others will discuss 

They will introduce the grand opera company’s new 2016-2017 productions of Rigoletto and Aida. 

The non-profit opera company has numerous volunteer opportunities available, including: 

  • Acting in non-speaking and non-singing roles the 28th 
  • Annual International Competition working behind-the-scenes 
  • Singing in the Verismo Opera Chorus. 

Exhibits will display memorabilia, costumes, and photos from Verismo Opera’s 28 years of producing grand operas, sponsoring the vocal competition, presenting concerts, holding master classes, giving operalogues, and training the stars of tomorrow.
