A meeting on Tuesday morning will explain the construction plan for the new municipal parking deck.
“I think the people concerned aren’t aware of what’s being done,” said Rothenberg, who has received a steady stream of complaints from merchants since assuming her role in December.
“This is a great opportunity to show people that the chamber does care, does want to try to help, even if it’s just to bring everyone together to talk.
"Communication is key.”
Construction will soon begin on the new municipal parking lot, which Rothenberg said will help alleviate the problem.
During the meeting, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, the borough’s parking authority, the Fort Lee Business District Alliance and Lt. Rick Mirkovic of the police department’s traffic division will discuss:
- What upcoming construction will provide
- Where shoppers/merchants will park during construction.
- Explaining the construction to customers.
- Project timeframe.
Rothenberg hopes merchants will use the meeting as a chance to ask question and offer suggestions.
"People are always complaining about parking and this is an opportunity to learn what’s going on, voice their opinion and be part of a solution," she said.
"Maybe people have ideas that we haven’t even thought about."
Merchants and shoppers are encouraged to attend Tuesday's 8:30 a.m. meeting at Borough Hall.
