Paterson Ex-Con Sent To Fed Pen For Nearly 5 Years For Selling Revolvers, Pistols, Rifles, Ammo
UPDATE: An ex-con from Paterson who'd already done state prison time for a gun conviction is headed to federal prison for nearly five years for selling 16 weapons smuggled into New Jersey. Rather than face trial, Floyd “HK” Henry, 36, took a deal from the government, pleading guilty via videoconference with a federal judge in Newark last summer to gun selling, as well as being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammo. Henry sold two semi-automatic rifles, three revolvers and 11 semi-automatic pistols – as well as over 100 rounds of ammunition -- when ATF agents arrested him in S…

Feds: Paterson Man Admits Laundering $2.5 Million For International Drug Cartels
A Paterson man admitted Tuesday that he laundered more than $2.5 million for Central and South American drug cartels operating in New Jersey and New York, federal authorities said. Willy Cruz-Bonilla, 24, was among six Passaic County residents charged in a massive network that converted nearly $27 million in ill-gotten gains to more than 1,000 checks sent to the Dominican Republic, Colombia and elsewhere, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael Honig said. The scheme was "designed to conceal the nature, source, ownership, and control of the illegal drug proceeds in order to avoid scrutiny by law enfor…

A registered sex offender from Wayne who served state prison time for downloading child porn is headed to a federal penitentiary this time after admitting that he did it again. Robert Klemt, 34, had more than 70 photos and videos “depicting the sexual exploitation of children" on a laptop, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said. Klemt, of New Street, had been imprisoned after pleading guilty in Superior Court in Essex County in 2014 to possessing and distributing child pornography. Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations arrested him in J…

Paterson Man Goes To Federal Prison For Dealing Deadly Fentanyl
A Paterson man was sent to federal prison for 27 months after admitting that he collected what was more than two pounds of fentanyl for sale that was delivered to an address in Clifton. What Felix Acevedo, 29, didn’t know was that law enforcement officers had intercepted it. They removed the deadly synthetic opioid -- which authorities say is 50 times more potent than heroin and up to 100 times more powerful than morphine – and replaced it with a harmless substitute for what became a “controlled delivery.” Convicts technically can be sent to federal prison for life under the government’s s…

Hudson Con Man Sent To Federal Prison For Cheating Seniors Out Of $450,000
A Union City financial adviser is headed to federal prison for a plea-bargained 27 months for stealing more than $450,000 from mostly elderly, Spanish-speaking clients. Ramon Herrera, 37, persuaded unwitting more than three dozen clients to sign blank withdrawal slips, which he then filled out to pull cash from their accounts in the form of cashier’s checks, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said. Herrera then applied the checks to accounts that he and a family member controlled, she said. Herrera took a deal from the government -- pleading guilty to wire fraud -- rather than go to tr…

Newark Bizman: I Laundered $23M For Dominican Drug Network
A Newark man admitted that he laundered $23 million for a Dominican drug network while awaiting trial for doing it before. Edwin Deleon-Batista, 37, told a federal judge in Newark that he collected huge amounts of cash from drug sales in New Jersey, New York, and Florida and converted them to cashier’s checks at local banks. Deleon-Batista was free on bond for federal money laundering charges following his arrest in New York in April 2019, Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Rachel A. Honig said. Soon after, he “began using a stolen identity and obtained a fraudulent Florida driver’s licen…

Hudson Ex-Con Caught With Modern-Day Saturday Night Special Gets 3 Years In Fed Pen
It's a cheaply-made revolver similar to the one that John Hinckley used in 1981 to try and kill President Reagan, and it's sending a Jersey City ex-con to federal prison for a mandatory three years. Benorce Duncan, 32, of Jersey City, spent more than four years behind state bars for robbery and aggravated assault before being released in September 2013, records show. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited by state and federal law from having a firearm or ammunition. Duncan was caught with a .22-caliber Röhm RG10 -- the modern-day equivalent of the "Saturday Night Special" -- loaded with s…

Newark Parking Authority Employee Admits Selling Drugs, Having Guns On Duty

Green also got a cut of $1,360 that an associate made selling two Smith and Wesson handguns – one a .44-caliber Model 21, the other a .38-caliber Model 15, along with 50 rounds of hollow-point .44-caliber ammo -- in exchange …

Fed Pen Awaits: Paterson Man Admits Plan To Sell Nearly 1M Potentially Lethal Fentanyl Doses
A Paterson man is facing a lengthy federal prison term after admitting that he collected a package in Clifton that he thought contained more than two pounds of fentanyl for sale. What Felix Acevedo, 28, didn’t know was that law enforcement officers had intercepted the package and removed the deadly synthetic opioid -- which authorities say is 50 times more potent than heroin and up to 100 times more powerful than morphine. Acevedo could be sent to federal prison for life under federal sentencing guidelines. It won’t be that long but will still be lengthy under the terms of a plea deal …
