Flames broke out at a home on the 100 block of North Avenue in Garwood around 4:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, local police said. Multiple 911 callers said the first floor of the structure was fully engulfed.  Garwood firefighters and others from surrounding jurisdictions responded, and neighbors said a victim may be inside, Garwood police said. Firefighters found a male victim on the first floor apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The incident remains under investigation.

The unidentified woman was near the North Elizabeth station when she was struck by train No. 7844 at approximately 4 p.m., a spokesperson for NJ Transit said. The train had left Trenton just before 3 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at NY Penn Station that evening.
