'Magic School Bus' Author, Newark Native Joanna Cole Dies, 75 Joanna Cole, author of the “Magic School Bus” book series and a Newark native, died Sunday. She was 75. Teacher Thrills 50 Bergen, Passaic Students With Personalized Book Deliveries Bergen Arts and Science Charter School teacher Marisa Schussler was cleaning out her Clifton home when she came across a pile of untouched Scholastic books last week. Two days later, Schussler was in her car delivering the books along with a note to each one of her 50 students' homes spread across Bergen County.
