): Gas Tanker Flips From One Side Of Route 17 To Other, Dealership Destroyed
In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8. Armed Mortuary Worker, 71, Ditches Gun In Hackensack Church After Threatening Man On Street: PD
A 71-year-old mortuary worker from Saddle Brook pulled a loaded gun on a man during a dispute on a Hackensack street, then ducked into a nearby church to try and ditch the weapon, authorities said. A Garfield kiddie porn collector planted a camera that secretly recorded a child for his sexual gratification, authorities charged. Jorge E. Mendez, a 56-year-old married product inspector, was arrested during a raid of his second-floor apartment on Tuesday, Dec. 5, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. It took a number of emergency responders more than a half hour to find the body of a man who was struck and killed by an NJ TRANSIT train Tuesday night in Bergen County. Local police departments in Bergen County have been comparing notes amid a rising wave of brazen home burglaries. The former office manager of a Bergen County-based union representing behind-the-scenes workers in the entertainment industry was arrested on charges of embezzling $1.7 million from the local. The estate of an electrician who died from a 30-foot fall at a food manufacturing plant in Saddle Brook has reportedly received a $5 million settlement. Joseph Roscitt, who worked for the Modern Electric Company in Clifton, was atop a scissor lift changing light bulbs when an employee at Chefler Foods accidentally backed a forklift into the aerial platform on Dec. 1, 2021, authorities said Roscitt, who was a member of IBEW Local 164 in Paramus, suffered brain bleeding and other critical injuries when his head slammed against the concrete floor, they said.
