A driver was hospitalized following a hit-and-run collision near the Meadowlands, authorities said. The 41-year-old Bloomfield resident told East Rutherford police was headed south on Route 120 when the crash around 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. Woman Found Dead In Meadowlands Area Motel Room
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female guest in a hotel room near the Meadowlands. Concerns were raised after her companion was nowhere to be found following the overnight discovery of the body Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Super 8 Motel on Washington Avenue near Route 120 in Carlstadt. Responders said they suspect a drug overdose, but that determination will have to be made by the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office after toxicology tests are completed. A 27-year-old Garfield woman who was pronounced dead at the scene of a fiery overnight crash near the Meadowlands "always had a song in her head and her heart," a loved one wrote in tribute. A sedan driven by Alysha Menzies apparently slammed into the back of a flatbed tow truck on westbound Route 3 near Route 120 in East Rutherford shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, May 6, responders said. The flatbed was carrying a Mercedes SUV that fell onto her car, which burst into flames, they said. UPDATE: The latest in a series of recent area brush fires was the biggest, as winds Friday night blew a blaze through a swath of the Meadowlands. The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. near the East Rutherford Public Works building off Murray Hill Parkway and Madison Circle Drive near Berry's Creek. The front end of a tandem tractor-trailer toppled a traffic signal after a sedan slammed into it before dawn Thursday on a major roadway near the Meadowlands, authorities said. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, State Police and the NYPD cracked a 35-year-old cold-case murder with the arrest of a Manhattan man accused of killing a Venezuelan national. David Garrido, 66, is charged with murder in the June 1985 slaying of 27-year-old Ricardo Brown, whose body was found dumped in the marshes in the Meadowlands. A man was struck and killed on Route 3 in East Rutherford late Friday after getting off a stalled bus. The victim apparently walked away from the disabled bus with his phone just before 11 p.m. when he was struck, responders said. A driver exiting the highway to Route 120 by the Meadowlands apparently lost control of the vehicle, which jumped the curb, mounted the grassy area off the road and hit the victim, they said.
