Shock mixed with profound sadness as word spread that a heart attack cut down a man who was known to be as kind as he was powerful. He was only 61. Hanrahan was headed to his son's house in his 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 when he was stricken on Route 287 in Morris County around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. Retired State Trooper Suffered Medical Episode Before Route 287 Crash: Family, Police The driver who died in a crash on Route 287 in Morris County this week has been identified as retired New Jersey State Trooper Kevin Hanrahan.  Hanrahan, 61, was heading north near milepost 31.4 in Harding Township around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, when he ran off the road to the left and struck a metal guardrail, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. Hanrahan was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, Marchan said. Hanrahan's son, Kevin, said he had suffered a medical episode.
