UPDATE: The mastermind behind the cold-blooded killing of a 21-year-old rival gang member from Newark during an ambush in Paterson was convicted of first-degree murder and one of his cronies of aggravated manslaughter on Friday. Jurors in Superior Court in Paterson needed only a day to reach guilty verdicts on Oct. 13 against Silk City residents Jaquan Thomas, 33, and Ismael Leon, 21, for gunning down Jose Figueroa. A seventh suspect has been charged with murder in the execution of a 21-year-old Newark man who was ambushed in the Silk City last year, authorities announced. Mick Cadet, 20, tried to fight Passaic County sheriff’s officers who seized him after he tried to run from them on Wednesday, authorities said Thursday. He was being held in the county jail. A team of shooters who gunned down a 21-year-old Newark man in Paterson were recruited, transported and positioned by a city woman and 17-year-old boy who were both charged with murder, authorities said.
