Electrical Outages Could Shut Some Sussex County Schools For The Week
Hopatcong students could be home for the rest of the week due to a series of electrical malfunctions. Superintendent Arthur DiBenedetto urged parents to come up with contingency plans for Thursday and Friday, if power to the schools cannot be restored. Sometime Wednesday morning, transformers began overheating as the result of an electrical outage near the high school and Tulsa Trail Elementary School, DiBenedetto said. Several Rescued From Apartment Building Fire In Montclair
Firefighters from Montclair and neighboring departments responded to a blaze at an apartment building that displaced several tenants, officials said. There were no reports of injuries. A passerby reported smoke in the area of Claremont and North Fullerton avenues around 12:36 a.m. Sunday. Responding firefighters found the fire at the building on North Fullerton, where several people were standing on fire escapes. They were rescued with ground ladders, officials said. Overnight Fire Blows Out Front Window Of Saddle Brook Deli
Firefighters quickly put down an overnight blaze that severely damaged a Saddle Brook bagel shop. No injuries were reported in the 1 a.m. fire Thursday at Metro Bagels and Deli at 5th Street and westbound Route 46, which blew out the front window. An electrical malfunction apparently was to blame, Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler said.
