Route 17 Reopens After Early-Morning Car Fire
A portion of Route 17 was closed early Tuesday, Aug. 6 after a vehicle erupted in flames. The East Rutherford Fire Department extinguished the fire that destroyed a Mazda sedan in the northbound lanes outside of the Lowe's complex around 8 a.m. There did not appear to be any injuries.

NJ Car Fire Linked To Killing Of Philadelphia Police Officer
A car fire on a New Jersey roadway has been linked to the shooting of two Philadelphia police officers that left one dead on Thursday evening, Oct. 12, authorities said. Police in South Brunswick said only that the vehicle fire extinguished on Route 32 around 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, was connected to the shooting. Subaru Recalling 272K SUVs Due To Potential Fire Hazard
Hundreds of thousands of Subaru SUVs are the latest vehicles subject to a nationwide recall due to the potential they could unexpectedly catch fire. The auto giant announced a recall of 271,694 Subaru Ascent SUVs with produced in the 2019 through 2022 model years due to a faulty electrical grounding bolt that may have been improperly fastened, according to the company. The Mountain Lakes Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to the crash — which was initially reported as a car fire — at the intersection of Boulevard and Route 46 around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, the squad said. A car fire temporarily closed eastbound Route 4 in Englewood. Flames quickly engulfed the sedan in front of the BP station just after the Sterling Boulevard entrance to the highway, sending plumes of black smoke skyward, shortly after 2:30 p.m. Englewood firefighters doused the blaze while eastbound Route 4 remained closed at Webster Avenue. Firefighters Contain Vehicle Blaze To Garage Of Bergenfield Home
Firefighters contained a Bergenfield car blaze that severely damaged an attached garage Sunday night. The Bogert Place call was quickly upgraded to a second alarm on arrival around 7 p.m., responders said. Firefighters made quick work of it, containing the flames to the garage. The sedan was totaled.
