'Tragic Accident': Fair Lawn Boy, 9, Struck, Critically Injured
A 9-year-old Fair Lawn boy was critically injured Wednesday in what responders all said was a "tragic accident."
The third-grader apparently ran into 17th Street near Morlot Avenue when he was struck by a 2014 Honda CR-V shortly before 4 p.m., police Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson with a severe head injury, plus several broken bones, Metzler said.
The driver, a 58-year-old woman also from Fair Lawn, remained at the scene, the sergeant said. No charges will be filed, he said.

Fair Lawn Crash: Passenger, 90, Suffers Compound Thumb Fracture After Van Runs Stop Sign
A 90-year-old passenger suffered a severely broken thumb in a Fair Lawn crash Monday morning.
A 50-year-old Elmwood Park man driving his 2017 Mercedes van on Willow Avenue ran a stop sign at 17th Street, where it hit a 2009 Camry carrying two Paterson women just before 10:30 a.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
The Camry was pushed into a parked 2000 Lexus, damaging it, as well, he said.
The Camry driver, 59, complained of chest pains and was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson along with her elderly passenger, who had a compound thumb fracture, the sergeant said.

Elmwood Park Driver, 74, Hits Couple And Their Car In Freak Fair Lawn Crash
FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- A 74-year-old driver from Elmwood Park sideswiped a couple's car and then hit both of them with her sedan as they crossed a Fair Lawn street Friday night, authorities said.
The driver was headed south on 17th Street toward Broadway when her 2016 Nissan hit the couple's parked Toyota and then struck them as they were walking to a nearby residence, Sgt. Brian Metzler told Daily Voice.
The woman, 25, who lives in Fair Lawn, suffered a significant leg injury, he said.
Her male companion -- 27, from Washingtonville, NY -- had back and injuries, Metzler said.
