Fair Lawn Olympic Athlete Set To Compete In Rio Games

Four athletes with connections to Bergen and Passaic Counties will compete in the Summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro, which start Friday, Aug. 5. Among those to watch:

  • Ronnie Ash, Passaic, Track and Field. Ash holds the high school program records in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, and competed in the high jump at Knightdale High School in Knightdale, N.C. He began hurdling in high school and was recruited to play basketball in college.
  • Tracy Eisser, Fair Lawn, Rowing. Eisser, a Fair Lawn High School graduate who already has a few medals under her belt (Gold in 2015 and Bronze in 2014) will be competing in the quadruple sculls.
  • Stephen Mozia, Hackensack, Track and Field. Mozia, a Hackensack High School grad with American and Nigerian dual citizenship (his parents are from Nigeria), was known growing up as a stand-out athlete. The shot putter is a three-time African Championships Bronze medallist. The 23-year-old represented Nigeria at the 2014 and 2016 World Indoor Championships.
  • Jennifer Wu, Fort Lee, Table Tennis. Wu has been playing table tennis for 17 years, training at New York Indoor Sports Club. She said her mother introduced her to the sport.
