YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Two security guards at the Fair Lawn ShopRite weren’t about to stand idly by while a man roamed the aisles, eating sushi and potato chips and pounding an energy drink he took off the shelves without paying for any of it. Six officers dispatched to the River Road supermarket on a call of a fight said they found 19-year-old  Daniel A. Chaupiz being held back, Fair Lawn Sgt. Richard Schultz said.

“According to the two security employees, they watched Chaupiz walk around the store while consuming sushi and an energy drink, discarding the empty containers in one of the aisles,” Schultz said. “Chaupiz was then seen grabbing a bag of potato chips, eating those and discarding the empty bag before trying to leave the store without paying for any of the items.

“When confronted by the store employees, Chaupiz became combative and tried forcing his way past the two employees. Despite the struggle, the employees were able to detain Chaupiz until the police arrived.”

Chaupiz is being held on $50,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery.
