The intended target told Teaneck police last month that he “feared he was targeted for a robbery” after noticing people following him to and from his business.
Today, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced that authorities had arrested 38-year-old Dammen McDuffie in connection with the crime and are looking for a second man.
McDuffie has a criminal record that stretches back nearly 20 year and includes assaults on police and resisting arrest.
He was picked up on Friday after authorities found evidence that includes a handgun during a pair of searches — one at his apartment and the other at his fiancee’s home in Bound Brook.
McDuffie was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with stalking, attempted robbery and conspiracy.
Molinelli cited the assistance of Teaneck, Englewood, Fair Lawn and Bound Brook police, along with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, in cracking the case and arresting a suspect.
He hadn’t yet provided details on the second man.
